The Dayak music industry is now hungry for quality and creative music and songs. In any music industry, quality is always top priority. Our listeners are very critical. They only choose quality music. That is why only quality music can survive and become hits songs.

KUCHING: An association has expressed its concern over the lack of creative and original Dayak music compositions last year but is hoping that 2018 would be a good year for composers, lyricists and music arrangers.

Vice- chairman of Persatuan Penggiat Seni dan Kebudayaan Dayak Kuching, Isa Lee said players in the Dayak music industry should be more proactive in producing creative compositions in their melody, lyric and music arrangement.

quality music can survive and become hits songs.

“To maintain quality of Iban music, especially, I urge all composers and music arrangers to be more creative. Add more new elements and good value in the songs,” he said.

Isa said besides good melody, the music and lyrics must reflect matters in daily life or fact of life for it to be more useful.

“To improve Iban songs and lyrics, I urge young lyricists to refer to those really good in Iban language including members of the Association for the Educational Development of the Iban Language (Aedil),” he said.

On a pertinent issue, Isa said RTM must not take too long to approve certain songs or albums, especially the ethnic ones since they have qualified panel members to do so.

“Tthe Dayak music industry is looking forward to more creative compositions in 2018 that should meet the taste and requirement of discerning listeners and fans,” Isa said.
