Youths loitering at KIA warrants a probe – Voon

-

KUCHING: The authorities are urged to check on a situation involving groups of people loitering in the vicinity of Kuching International Airport ( KIA) late evening and at night.

National PKR women vice- chief Voon Shiak Ni in making the call said she had been receiving numerous complaints about it since a few months ago.

“I have seen the groups myself loitering near the airport’s departure floor. I was also told they are usually there sitting by the roadsides in late evening.

“Such lepak ( loitering) culture should not happen at KIA which is the gateway to enter the city. We don’t want to give a bad impression to our tourists,” she told a news conference here yesterday.

She added it’s unhealthy for individuals young or middle-aged to loiter at the airport.

“This warrants a probe. I was even told that many of them played with their motorcycles, but I am not sure if they were racing.

“They would ride from the KIA departure floor, past two traffic lights and back to the departure area again.

“Not only is this not good for the city’s image but people who have to get to their cars from the terminal building may feel scared because they don’t know who those people are.

“It is also said they left behind trash items such as empty cans,” she said.

Voon said she had not seen any enforcement action even though a number of people have complained about the issue.
