Entries now open for Eco-Fit challenge

BINTULU: Entries are now open for the Eco-Fit Road and Trail Challenge 2.0 on March 11 at the Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus ( UPMKB).

Event publicity committee member Abdul Mohammad Omar said the race is organised by the university in collaborat­ion with Undergroun­d Runners Bintulu.

“The main objective of the event is to promote healthy and nature loving lifestyles as the track will cover forested areas and farms in UPMKB in accordance with the theme ‘Forestry Ecology (Eco) and Fitness (Fit)’.

“In the meantime, this event is also to collect funds for UPMKB Community Service Projects, which are based on three categories namely health, education and needs,” he said.

Abdul Mohammad said the 5km and 13km sections will include Nirwana Forest at Bukit Nyabau, as well the tar- sealed road from SJK Chung Hua Bintulu No. 2 to the Telekom telecommun­ications tower.

The 13km run is open to 300 runners, who will receive finisher’s T- shirts and medals upon completion, while the top five winners in the men’s and women’s categories will receive cash prizes.

The entry fee for this category is RM90 each.

The 5km section will be open to 500 runners, with cash prizes for the top three in the men’s and women’s categories, while all runners will receive running Tshirts and medals.

This category is open to runners aged 15 and above, and the entry fee is RM60 each.

For registrati­on go to Remix Technologi­es Sdn Bhd, Ground Floor No. 306 & 307 Parkcity Commercial Square, Phase 4 from 8am to 5.30pm on Mondays to Saturdays.

The closing date to enter is Feb 15, while the race pack collection will be from 9am to 6.30pm on March 9-10 at Remix Technologi­es’ premises.

Flag-off on the day will be at 6am and the campus gate at Taman Li Hua will be open from 3am, while the main gate at Jalan Nyabau will be open at 4am.

Last year, 435 runners including from South Africa, China, Philippine­s, Indonesia, Brunei and Japan, took part in the challenge.
