2 boys fatally hit by car while cycling in Pontian

JOHOR BAHRU: Two boys, aged 12 and 15, were killed and two others injured when they were hit by a car at KM1.3 SawahGunun­g Pulai road, Pontian, last night.

Pontian district police chief, Zakaria Abd Rahman said the investigat­ion found the incident occurred when the Toyota Altis car was trying to overtake another car when it crashed into a group of four young cyclists.

The dead victims were identified as Muhammad Amiruddin Abd Majid, 12, and Ibnu Ahmad Ahmad Naizl, 15, and the injured as Nur Iqmal Haffiz Abdul Wahab, 14, who broke his shoulder blade, and Mohammad Nur Hayatuddin Mazli, 14, who was slightly injured.

“We received a call on the road accident at 10.35pm. The 38-yearold car driver was on his way from Ulu Pulai to Pekan Nanas while the boys were cycling from the opposite direction,” Zakaria said in a statement, here, yesterday.

He said Muhammad Amiruddin and Ibnu Ahmad were flung and landed a few metres away on the road from the impact of the crash and were confirmed to have died at the scene. Their bodies and the two injured were sent to Pontian Hospital.

Zakaria said three of the victims were schooling at a secondary school in Pekan Nanas while one was not schooling. They were on their home from a kompang training session when the accident happened.

He said the driver who was unhurt in the incident, was being remanded for four days from yesterday to facilitate the investigat­ion under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
