Assemblyman sings praises of former representative for invaluable services
KOTA SAMARAHAN: Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang yesterday paid tribute to his predecessor, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, the late former Chief Minister whom he described as a man who had done so much for the people in the constituency.
Adenan who passed away a year ago Thursday was Muara Tuang assemblyman from 1979 to 2006 and during his time serving as the area’s elected representative did much to bring development to the area, Idris said.
Adenan also made sure that the villages in the Muara Tuang constituency enjoy basic necessities for which the village folk remember him well.
Among the villages which still misses Adenan dearly, according to Idris is Kampung Tanjung Bundong.
“Whenever I visit this village the people always remember him (Adenan). I can understand as he has been assemblyman of this area for so long,” he added when speaking to reporters yesterday.
Idris was at the village on Friday to attend a Tahlil ceremony for the late Adenan, held at the village’s Darul Salam mosque.
Speaking to the villagers during the ceremony, Idris hoped that the people of Muara Tuang constituency will never forget what Adenan had done for them.
“His (Adenan) services to people should not only be remembered by the people of Muara Tuang, but all Sarawakians. His services to this area and state are simply invaluable,” said Idris.
Around 100 villagers attended the ceremony which started with Maghrib prayers at the mosque.
