KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Pantai Damai successfully held its first leaders assembly as a new approach to empower leaders in preparation for the next parliamentary election.

Pantai Damai assemblyman and PBB Pantai Damai chief Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said although all members are always prepared for elections, the assembly was important to keep them informed on the latest developments in the constituency.

“In PBB, we have adopted an early preparation method, for example, in the last election through our ‘Randau’ programme, where we went to all branches to visit our members and conducted programmes and services for the people,” said the Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity during the assembly’s closing ceremony on Friday.

“Members need to be well informed, especially on the total number of registered voters in this area, and how we can approach the people and paint a good image as a whole of Barisan Nasional (BN).”

Dr Abdul Rahman said the strong majority in Pantai Damai during the last state election proved the people’s confidence in the state BN leadership and the government as a whole.

“As the forefront party, leaders from each sub-branch under Pantai Damai need to synchronise their vision and have proper planning,” he added.

He said a retreat would be held soon for branch leaders to examine how PBB Pantai Damai could help to retain the Santubong seat with bigger majority during the upcoming parliamentary election.

During the 2016 state election, Dr Abdul Rahman’s majority of 9,260 votes, was the highest among the 81 state seats.

Pantai Damai comes under the Santubong parliamentary seat along with the Tanjung Datu and Demak Laut state seats.
