MIRI: The Sarawak Local Content Competition returns with a new theme for its 11th edition and a total cash prize of RM8,100.

Organised by Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri with the support of the Education Department, this year’s team is ‘Traditional Medicine in Ethnic Circles of the Northern Region of Sarawak’. It will run from February to April.

Pustaka Miri public relations officer Sofina Tan said it is open to secondary school students from northern Sarawak.

Each school may send a maximum of five teams consisting between two and four students.

“The aim of the competition is to give students the exposure to conduct and prepare a complete research report by finding information through validated resources, planning, data collecting, analysing, interpreting, recording, synthesising and drawing conclusion. They will then present their findings at the end of the competition,” Tan said Friday.

“With Sarawak’s rich diversity, students will be fascinated by their discovery during the research work.

“At the same time, the creativity, innovative skills and experience gained will benefit them other than for education purposes.”

The top three prizes are RM3,000, RM2,000 and RM1,000, respectively plus trophies and certificates.

Seven qualifying teams will each receive RM300, while groups that do not qualify will receive consolation prizes.

The best presenter and best guidance teacher will also receive prizes including RM500 each.
