SIBU: United People’s Party (UPP) Community Service Board Sibu plans to set up a centralised electronic waste recycling centre here.

Board chairman Dato Andrew Wong said the plan will likely be pursued after the Chinese New Year celebration.

“Based on the feedback on the ground, the public want a more centralised location for the ( ewaste) facility. So, we are looking to rent a more centralised location, like a shop lot, as a start.

“It is just for the purposes of collecting e-waste. However, for the long-term management of the ewaste, we are looking at a location in the outskirts (of Sibu),” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Wong said the proposed centre will be a proper facility and manned during working hours.

Meanwhile, the Rancangan Sibu 1 (RS1) mobile service counter held at Belatok commercial area here on Sunday received overwhelming response from local residents.

UPP Community Service Board Sibu Social Community Development deputy chairman Andrew Ting and UPP Dudong branch Women’s wing chief Kapitan Connie Loh were among those present.
