Bintulu MMEA success due to hard work – Outgoing director
I would like to congratulate my enforcement officers and personnel who have worked so hard in carrying out their responsibilities to ensure the safety and security of Malaysian waters and the local maritime communities.
BINTULU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency ( MMEA) here has succeeded in safeguarding local waters throughout last year.
Bintulu MMEA outgoing director Captain Aminuddin Abdul Rashid said the agency was able to curb maritime criminal activities in Bintulu waters from Tanjung Payung in the north, to Kuala Igan in the south.
“I would like to congratulate my enforcement officers and personnel who have worked so hard in carrying out their responsibilities to ensure the safety and security of Malaysian waters and the local maritime communities,” he said in a press conference yesterday.
Earlier, Aminuddin witnessed the Bintulu MMEA monthly assembly at Bintulu Civic Centre where he handed over his duties to his successor, Maritime Commander Mohd Hambali

He disclosed that Bintulu MMEA had exceeded the targeted number of arrests for last year thanks to intensive and continuous operations.
“Throughout 2017, Bintulu MMEA made a total of 494 inspections under the Fisheries Act 1985, Immigration Act 1959/63, Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission Act 2009, Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952, Control of Supplies Act 1961 and various Acts under federal law.”
Aminuddin also pointed out that apart from the success of its operations, Bintulu MMEA was also involved in rescue missions involving fishing boats, merchant vessels, drowning victims and the incident last month involving the rescue of the crew of an oil tanker stranded in Bintulu waters.
The outgoing director will be reporting for duty on Jan 29 as the new MMEA base director in Putrajaya, having served here for nearly 15 months.
