Petronas to donate RM2 mln to state welfare bodies, NGOs
KUCHING: Petronas will hand over RM2 million under its corporate social responsibility ( CSR) initiative for distribution to welfare bodies and nongovernmental organisations ( NGOs) in the state.
According to Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, the donation will be presented during his ministry’s Open Day next month.
Speaking to reporters during a press conference held at her office yesterday, she also revealed that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will receive the donation on the state government’s behalf during the event at the Kuching Waterfront.
“During our open day next month, our Chief Minister is expected to symbolically receive the grant from Petronas and symbolically distribute some of the money to various organisations during the event. More than 200 organisations will benefit from this grant from Petronas,” she added.
Meanwhile Fatimah hoped that members of the public will support the ministry’s open day which is scheduled to be held at the Kuching Waterfront from Feb 3 to 4.
There will be 41 booths open by various organisations which she calls strategic partners to her ministry.
“Those who attend the open day will find it exciting as we have lined up a lot of activities for members of the public during that time. The exhibition at the booths will also provide useful information for the public,” she said.
Also present during the press conference were Assistant Minister for Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, KWKPK permanent secretary Dr Saadiah Abdul Samat, and Women and Family Department director Noriah Ahmad.
