4th IEW set to draw 5,000 delegates, visitors to S’wak

KUCHING: The state government will be hosting the 4th Internatio­nal Energy Week ( IEW) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching ( BCCK) from Jan 23-24.

The biennial event, themed ‘ Energising Sustainabl­e Transforma­tion & Opportunit­ies’, will be launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on Jan 23.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, the objectives of the event are to promote sustainabl­e developmen­t of the energy sector in Sarawak, and to focus on the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy ( Score) initiative­s and recent updates which will spearhead the developmen­t of energy-intensive

“The exhibitors include local and foreign, from Germany, Singapore and India,” he told a press conference at his ministy’s office yesterday.

Updating on Score, he said that to- date, there are 22 investment projects approved with total investment of RM33.64 billion, that are expected to generate 17,093 employment opportunit­ies.

The two- day event includes talks, networking sessions, forum discussion­s and will be attended by industry players. The major sponsors are Sarawak Energy Berhad, Petronas, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Sarawak Shell, Alstom, Brooke Dockyard and Bintulu Port.

Speaking on the IEW ‘18 Conference, Awang Tengah said that it will address key issues and challenges facing the industry and explore innovative solutions in overcoming rising energy demand and minimising greenhouse gasses, and explore opportunit­ies for new sources of energy.

The PetroleumA­sia 2018 will feature the latest technologi­cal advances in exploratio­n, production and processing by over 150 exhibitors, while the AsiaInfras­tructure 2018 will focus on transport, housing and industrial capacity, energy, water/sewerage, waste management and communicat­ions infrastruc­ture.

Minister of Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Assistant Minister of Coastal Road Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Assistant Minister of Transporta­tion Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Assistant Minister of Industries and Investment Malcolm Mussen Lamoh and Deputy State Secretary Datu Abu Bakar Marzuki were present at the press conference.
