Live within your means to avoid corruption, civil servants told

-

KAPIT: All heads of departments here must relay to their staff the importance of living within their means to keep away from corruption,

The advice came from Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong, who said they must strictly uphold integrity, practise high values and discipline in performing their tasks and in their daily lives to avoid such temptations

Belayong was speaking at the taking of oath of integrity ceremony by all heads of federal and state departments here last Friday.

“Professionalism and integrity must be upheld at all cost in our daily works. For example, any project implemented by the government agency if not implemented properly would adversely affect the people. The negative impact is damaging. It ref lects badly on the image of the department and this would affect the economics of the country. If the implementing agency takes bribe, the quality of the works would not be up to standard. This a loss to the people and creates a very bad impression of the government,” he said

He reminded that the oath must be honoured and upheld at all times.

Meanwhile, a talk on various aspects of corruption was presented by Badli Shah Shamin of Malaysian Ant- Corruption Agency ( MACC) from Sibu to some 200 civil servants attending the ceremony.

At the same time, Badli called on the people to report any malpractices by government officers to MACC for them to take action.

He said MACC can be reached via its telephone 03- 88867000, fax 03-88889652 or email info@ prm. gov. my and its Sibu office can be reached via 084– 321982 or 084– 311982.
