MCC runs full council meeting, with two DAP members among attendees, without any problem

-

MIRI: Miri City Council ( MCC) held it full council meeting for January smoothly yesterday, with two members of Democratic Action Party ( DAP) among those attending.

Miri DAP Youth chief Peter Hee and DAP committee member Bong Sin Ted attended the meeting as observers.

They were dressed smartly, bearing no symbol of their party whatsoever.

Miri Mayor Adam Yii thanked them for observing MCC’s proper code of attire during the meeting.

“We always welcome those wishing to attend our full council meeting.

“Thus, it has never been an issue – there is no attempt by the council to stop members of the public from attending the meeting as long as they comply with the requirements.”

MCC, during its August full council meeting last year, passed a proposal on the need for councillors and members of the public to observe a proper code of attire when attending the meetings.

The code also applies to members of the media attending the meetings for news coverage.

On Oct 30 last year, Yii was forced to adjourn a full council meeting after Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon and Hee refused to leave the meeting as observers, for not adhering to the proper code of attire.

For better control during the meeting, the MCC also requires those wishing to attend the full council meeting to give early notice of their attendance.

According to the council, this is to ensure that the meeting is carried out smoothly, adding that the MCC would reserve seats for observers so that they can attend the meetings comfortably.
