About 1,000 to attend ‘show of women power’ in Rasau
SERIAN: Some 1,000 women are expected gather at the Kampung Rasau village hall near here for the ‘Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat - Memperkasakan Wanita 2018’ (Leader with People - Empowering Women) programme with Human Resources Minister Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem this Saturday.
Hosting the programme will be the Serian chapter of the Women and Family Development Council ( MPWK) led by chairwoman Jenny Jita.
According to Jenny, the Serian chapter is organising the event as a ‘ show of women power’. Women representatives from 130 villages in Serian are involved in the event.
“The 14th general election ( GE14) is approaching. We are gathering the women together to show our undivided support for Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Richard,” she said after a meeting of the organising committee which was also attended by Riot’s press secretary Jeffrey Layang.
Jenny said Riot had an unblemished record of never failing women in his constituency throughout his six terms as Serian MP.
“He has been very supportive of the activities of women NGOs and associations; therefore this Feb 3 gathering is our way of saying ‘thank you’ and that we will vote for him come GE14,” Jenny said.
She disclosed that the evening’s highlight will be a traditional dress contest to popularise the wearing of traditional dresses like ‘ baju kurung’, ‘ kebaya’ and ‘pakaian asli kaum Dayak’ among the youths of today.
There will be cash prizes of RM1,000 for the champion, RM750 (first runner-up) and RM500 (second runner-up).
“The rest of the finalists will get a consolation prize of RM100 each,” Jenny added.
