‘Centexs Dalat’s grads highly employable’

-

DALAT: About 90 per cent of graduates from the Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak ( Centexs) in Dalat have found employment.

Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said this at the opening of the Centexs Dalat temporary campus last Saturday.

She said the programmes offered by the campus are in line with the needs of the economy. As such, she hoped that at least 40 per cent of the school-leavers here would enrol in Centexs.

“The programmes would definitely help you secure jobs.

“I want all parents to have confidence in Centexs and discard the mindset that technical education is second- class education,” she said.

For a start, Centexs Dalat is making available two programmes – Fashion Technology ( Basic Level) and Wireman Plus.

Fatimah, who is Dalat assemblywoman, said more skilled workers are needed in the state and in this regard, Centexs is established to supply the manpower demanded by various industries.

According to her, Centexs Kuching provides various programmes including those catering to the needs of the oil and gas, electrical, construction, textile and hospitality industries.

“Based on the statistics from Human Resources Ministry, 1.5 million new jobs that require skilled workers, will be available by 2020,” she added.

Fatimah said Centexs Dalat would open up more programmes once the next phase of its development reaches completion.

She said there is a plan to convert the existing three-storey building into a hostel.

With the establishment of a hostel, Centexs could recruit more trainees, especially the locals, she added.

“We are trying to see how we can convert the building into a hostel for about 60 trainees. There should be one unit for the warden, a canteen, an administration block, and classrooms,” she said.
