BINTULU: Press Metal Sarawak is exhibiting steady growth thanks to increased molten aluminium production at its Mukah and Samalaju plants.

According to Press Metal Group general manager Choa Wei Keong, 119,187 tonnes of molten aluminium were produced in Mukah last year, compared to 117,989 tonnes in 2016.

“In Samalaju, we did 643,516 tonnes of molten aluminium in 2017 – 50,323 tonnes more than that recorded in 2016,” he said at Press Metal Sarawak’s 2017 annual dinner here recently.

However, Choa said such achievement would not come easily because it required hard work, commitment, competency and teamwork.

He said the difficulties that the teams had to deal with all these years reminded him of how tough and resilient members of Press Metal Sarawak management and staff are.

“Our commitment to excellence and success of our people, our business and the communities we operate in – we started with these values in building our culture because without such commitment, without spending the necessary time and efforts, nothing would be successful.”

Press Metal Sarawak, Choa said, had also invested heavily in empowering and upskilling its workforce by way of bringing in new technology, equipment and work processes.

“Learning new knowledge on global marketplace, customers, products and information, shapes our business.”

Meanwhile, Choa disclosed that Press Metal Sarawak had commenced the installation of the conveyor belt for alumina (aluminium oxide), which would assist in transferring the alumina directly from Samalaju port to the factory.

“We are completing a new cast house in Samalaju to produce a bigger percentage of higher valueadded aluminium products.

“We are upgrading the casting machines in Mukah plant by introducing air slip billet casting machine, enhance our billet quality and improve the efficiency.”

At the event, several employees were presented with service excellence awards, including Rudi Wardoyo and Saefu Rokhman, who received the ‘ Indonesian Workers Awards 2017’.
