Rep lauds charitable work of volunteers, Good Samaritans

-

MIRI: Doing charity and volunteer work may sound easy, but it actually involves a lot of hard work, commitment and devotion. Therefore, volunteers’ effort in reaching out to those in need must not be overlooked.

According to Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, associations such as Miri Life Care Society have done a lot for the community and they deserve more than just a pat on the back.

“Many a time volunteers not only give their time and energy to help people. They also dig into their own pockets, buying daily necessities for those in need. Therefore, their efforts are immeasurable,” said Ting when launching Miri Life Care Society’s Caring Vehicle at Bintang Megamall last Sunday.

Ting also lauded the many Good Samaritans among the locals here who chose to remain anonymous despite having helped many people with their own resources.

“These people are the true unsung heroes who don’t want any publicity. But it would do them justice by appreciating them for taking the time and for going the extra mile to help people.

“This is the good example that everyone must emulate to make the whole society better,” he remarked.

The Caring Vehicle, according to the society’s chairman William Sim offer free rides to the sick and elderly who do not have transport to go to places like hospital or clinic to get the necessary treatment without having to worry about the fees.

The launching was also witnessed by Mayor Adam Yii, Miri Housing Group of Companies executive chairman Dato’ Lau Siu Wai as well as wellwishers.
