SK Kampung Baru hosts interprima­ry school competitio­ns

KAPIT: The Kapit District interprima­ry school annual cross country race and sepak takraw competitio­n was held yesterday at SK Kampung Baru here.

It was declared open by Bukit Goram assemblyma­n Jefferson Jamit Unyat.

The day started with the cross country race at around 8am which was flagged off by Jamit at Bletih Integrated Stadium.

About 190 pupils took part in the 6km event that took them along Jalan Bletih to Jalan Airport, Jalan Suhaili and to the finishing point at SK Kampung Baru.

The race was divided into two categories – Boys and Girls 12 and below. The purpose of the race was to select athletes to represent Kapit at the state-level championsh­ip in Bintulu, where the winner will represent Sarawak at the nationalle­vel race in Perak in March this year.

The winners in the Girls Category were Ayu Thania Khacin from SK Kampung Baru (champion), Arnissya Allis Radin from SK Kampung Baru (second) and Arryana Chelesa Manggai from SK Kampung Baru (third).

In the Boys Category, the winners were Rickyson Ringgi Rami from SK Nanga Ibau (champion), Ambrose Geriang Selingan from SK Nanga Ibau (second) and Billy Joseph from SK Nanga Ibau (third).

SK Kampung Baru scored top position in the overall result for the Girls Category with 165 points, followed by SK Nanga Mujong in second place with 80 points and SK Kapit in third place with 22 points.

In the Boys Category, SK Nanga Ibau was champion with 62 points while SK Kampung Baru and SK Kapit came in second and third places respective­ly.

They all received prizes in the form of trophies and medals from Jamit.

The sepak takraw competitio­n was ongoing at press time.

Among those attending the event were SK Kampung Baru headmistre­ss Seniah Othman, Kapit Education Office head of curricular activities Kumbong Garit, teachers and parents of the pupils.
