Sports Toto brings festive cheer to senior citizens in Miri

MIRI: Sports Toto brought cheer to 150 senior citizens yesterday with ‘ang pow’ and mini hampers of dry food as part of its annual CSR project to share the festive joy with the less fortunate.

Senior Communicat­ion Executive Yip Bing Tsong told reporters that yesterday’s event marked the company’s 30th Chinese New Year Ang Pow campaign.

“As one of the 50 locations selected for this campaign, we are happy that the small gesture is able to help and bring smiles to senior citizens in the community during this festive season.

“More importantl­y, we aim to instil positive values such as respecting and caring for the elders,” said Yip.

This year, the campaign is held from Jan 25 to Jan 29 in 50 cities and towns nationwide to benefit needy senior citizens aged 60 years old and above.

event of Sports Toto, this year’s campaign saw over RM1.2 million in ‘ang pow’ being prepared five months ago with the help of 800 staff and agents across the country.

“In conjunctio­n with the 30th anniversar­y of this campaign, Sports Toto has also increased the amount of the ‘ang pow’ from RM25 to RM30 for each beneficiar­y,” he said.

The event was also attended by Sports Toto Pelita branch manager Angelina Teo and Miri area sales officer Liew Se Min. Since its inception in 1989, Sports Toto has consistent­ly held the charity event for the past 29 years and has given out close to RM20 million to over 350,000 senior citizens nationwide, and will continue doing so every year without fail.

Sports Toto also carries out various festive CSR projects under the Helping Hands Programme, which include Hari Raya goodwill visits to government hospitals, Deepavali charity donation drive, Christmas cheer with the Orang Asli community as well as the Harvest and Gawai cheer with the underprivi­leged in East Malaysia.

Sports Toto also contribute­s substantia­l amounts annually to the National Sports Council and sporting events organised by local sports associatio­ns to develop sporting talents.
