‘Arsonists poured petrol in cars before burning them’

-

PUTRAJAYA: A windscreen of one of the cars belonging to the family of a Royal Customs Department senior officer, which were torched at the government housing quarters at the 11th Precinct here, was broken before petrol was poured inside and then set on fire.

Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department director- general Wan Mohd Nor Ibrahim said it was identified as the cause in the burning of four cars in front of Customs principal assistant director, ( GST Enforcement) Nur Azman Mat Jini's quarters, on Jan 23.

In the incident at about 3.30am, a Mercedes Benz that belonged to his wife and a Perodua MyVi owned by his daughter were charred while the front of two other vehicles, a Honda CRV belonging to Nur Azman and a Proton Saga belonging to his son-in-law, were burned.

“In view of the fact that the fire involved criminal acts, Customs handed over the matter to the police,” Wan Mohd Nor told reporters here yesterday after visiting a public housing apartment unit in the 16th Precinct, on Sunday.

Putrajaya District Police Chief ACP Rosly Hassan was previously reported to have said that the investigation papers on the case were opened under Section 435 of the Penal Code.

He said police also found the head of a hammer at the back of the Mercedes Benz and a lighter on the vehicle's floor. — Bernama
