-

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested two men here on Sundday to help investigate a case of arson involving four cars belonging to the family of a Royal Customs Department senior assistant director in front of their living quarters at Precinct 11, Putrajaya, on Jan 23.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the two self- employed men, aged 48 and 49, were remanded for three days from yesterday to help investigate the case.

“We detected the men through closed- circuit television cameras while they were riding a motorcycle in the area on the day of the incident. The motive is still under investigation,” he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Police headquarters here yesterday.

It is understood that one of the suspects had been identified as having threatened another Customs officer over the telephone in April last year.

Four vehicles belonging to the family of the senior assistant director were torched at 3.30am in front of his living quarters, an act regarded as mischief.

The fire also almost destroyed the front portion of the living quarters.

In another development, Mazlan said, police had taken DNA samples from 31 individuals to assist in the case of the death of a boy after he was hit by a falling chair at Block 102 of the Seri Pantai People's Housing Project in Pantai Dalam here on Jan 15.

He said the police were waiting for the results from the Chemistry Department for further action.

“We urge those individuals with information on the case to come forward to help in the investigation so that it can be completed promptly,” he said.
