-

MIRI: Two Indonesians were among three men arrested for alleged possession of illegal drugs in Bukit Limau, Long Lapok on Monday.

When contacted yesterday, Marudi police chief DSP Gabriel Risut said police first arrested the two Indonesian men, aged 35 and 36, at a workers’ quarters around 9am.

“A check was carried out and police found a crystalline substance, suspected to be syabu, weighing 9.92g inside a plastic packet kept inside a cigarette box.

“Police also found drugs, also syabu, weighing 0.60g in their possession,” he said.

Gabriel said the drugs amounting to 10.52g were estimated to be worth RM1,000.

“Initial investigation showed that the suspects bought the drugs from a local supplier,” he said.

Both suspects tested negative for drug abuse.

“Police are investigating the case under Section 39(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession, and the two have been remanded for 14 days under Section 6(1)( c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” Gabriel added.

The third suspect, 35, was detained after police carried out a search on a car around 9.30am, not far from the workers’ quarters where the first two suspects were arrested.

A body check on the suspect found five transparent plastic packets inside the suspect’s socks containing a crystalline substance believed to be syabu, weighing 3.4g.

“Police then searched the suspect’s vehicle and found 14 transparent plastic packets containing a crystalline substance, suspected to be syabu, weighing 10.5g hidden inside the car’s bonnet,” Gabriel said.

Police are investigating the case under Section 39(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 12(2) of the same Act for drug possession.

Gabriel noted that the successful raids were due to cooperation between police and the local community.

“We will continue to fight this drug issue because it causes anxiety among the community in the area,” he added.
