Tiong chides Dr Mahathir for meeting EU leaders

-

KUCHING: Bintulu MP Datuk Sri Tiong King Sing has condemned the meeting of a delegation of European Union ( EU) leaders with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad and Pakatan Harapan leaders in Kuala Lumpur last Thursday.

Referring to the two-hour meeting between 14 EU ambassadors and three charge de affairs at the house of the EU ambassador to Malaysia Maria Castillo Fernandez, Tiong said Dr Mahathir had done the very thing he forbade opposition politicians from doing when he was prime minister.

“The meeting shows that Dr Mahathir has no principle, to him what was forbidden when he was in power is now allowed when he is in the opposition.

“He should explain why he stopped the opposition, including Anwar Ibrahim, from meeting foreign political representatives when he was prime minister and why he sees nothing wrong in doing the same thing now,” Tiong pointed out.

Tiong added that perhaps the former prime minister believes that Malaysians easily forget as he once said “Malays easily forgets”.

“Do underestimate Malaysians… we still remember what you have done during your time as prime minister, we will not be fooled into believing you again.”

The Bintulu MP cautions that by inviting foreign power to meddle in the nation’s affairs, Dr Mahathir is putting the nation at risk as its future could be influenced by outsiders to suit their agenda.

“There is no free lunch especially in international relationship. EU countries might promise to help the opposition but that offer will come with strings attached.”

Tiong pointed out that EU countries have proven that they do not care about the economic well being of Malaysia by banning palm oil in its market and for Dr Mahathir and Pakatan Harapan to turn to them is reckless and foolish.

He added that EU itself is embroiled in its own troubles among its member countries and they should spend their time cleaning their own backyard instead of meddling in Malaysia’s affairs.
