Kota Samarahan folk laud municipal council on move to stop illegal dumping of trash

-

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Local residents laud the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council ( MPKS) on its effort to stop illegal dumping of trash during the Chinese New Year season.

“The residents have expressed their satisfaction with the council’s services. They also hope that this would continue and not be restricted to just during the festive seasons,” MPKS said in a press statement yesterday.

It is learnt that the council has allocated roll- on, roll- off ( RoRo) waste bins at a few `hot spots’ here – namely the back of Everrise Supermarket in Desa Ilmu, hawker’s area at Jalan Entingan, back of 1Malaysia Restaurant, KFC outlet, Unaco Supermarket, Bandar Riyal market area, Farley Supermarket, Taman Tiya Vista, Taman Samarindah, Taman Sentoria, Stakan Jaya Commercial Centre and Mile 9 housing estate at Open University Malaysia.

These areas are where some people easily discard waste items like broken and old furniture pieces, as well as old electrical appliances like fans, washing machines and refrigerators.

On RoRo waste bins, the MPKS said it is easy to use – the waste inside can be emptied at landfills.

“We hope that this method would eradicate and minimise illegal dumping of trash.”

According to MPKS environmental officer Nawi Som, the council would run this especially during festive seasons like the Chinese New Year, Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“We urge the public to use the facilities given by the council, and not resort to illegal dumping which is an offence,” said Nawi.
