MIRI: MagnumCares, the corporate social responsibility arm of Magnum Group, brought Chinese New Year cheer to elderly folks and children with specials needs at 37 homes throughout Sarawak this year, including those here.

Its Welfare Homes Outreach Programme kicked off Monday, with Magnum marketing officer Cecilia Chai leading employees to present CNY goodies to residents of Miri Home for the Aged, cancer patients at the Palliative Care Association, and children at the Association of Parents of Children with Special Needs ( Pibakis) Miri.

The programme started in 1985 with distribution of angpow to charity and welfare homes nationwide.

According to a press release, MagnumCares will be visiting 227 homes from Jan 22 onwards, giving away RM701,3000 in angpau and festive gifts to over 13,700 recipients.

“One of the best ways to receive prosperity and auspiciousness for the New Year is to first give joy and happiness to others, especially those in charity and welfare homes,” said Magnum Group CSR head Beh Swan Swan.

She added that it has long been a tradition of the company to give not only material joy during this festive season, but also make time to bring happiness through small gestures carried out by its staff.

“The residents of the homes really look forward to receiving red packets and gifts to start off their year as a blessing for good health and auspiciousness.”
