SIBU: The Sibu Rural District Council ( SRDC) will focus on engaging the local community in its activities through ‘Community Engagement’ programme, its chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai said.

I admit that SRDC is still limited by many things which include allocations, manpower and financial standing. Sempurai Petrus Ngelai, Sibu Rural District Council chairman

“I admit that SRDC is still limited by many things which include allocations, manpower and financial standing.

“However, these constraints and limitations will not slow us down or limit us in serving the people,” he said during the council’s appreciation dinner on Monday.

Political secretary to the chief minister Edwin Banta was the guest- of-honour at the function.

Sempurai said the council, as the third tier of the government body, cannot disassociate itself from the community.

Therefore, he said all SRDC’s strategic planning and ‘ Balance Score Card’ in their Local Key Result Areas ( LKRA) involves a lot of community programmes.

This year, SRDC will push for major programmes as its priority that will include ‘ Seven LKRA’ set up by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing, he said.

On a similar matter, Sempurai said that SRDC has achieved its Key Performance Index ( KPI) in 2016 and last year.

“From the data and statistics gathered under my instruction, there are a total of 374 complaints or reports submitted to SRDC either by our councillors or members of the public.

“About 89 per cent of the complaints had been solved or at least the council had acted on those complaints,” he said.

“The rest of the complaints are in the process of ratification and some have been reverted to relevant agencies for action,” he added.

Also present were Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairperson Rogayah Jamain, SRDC deputy chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew and SRDC secretary Justani Joni.
