SWAG 2018 first roundtable for women entreprene­urs

KUCHING: Women and Family Department of Sarawak together with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus successful­ly organised # SWAG 2018: Building Connection­s for Enterprisi­ng Women’s First Roundtable Southern Zone on Jan 25 at Riverside Majestic Hotel, Kuching.

In its press statement yesterday, the department said the focus of Sarawak Women Aspiration Group ( SWAG) is to recognise the contributi­ons of women’s businesses not only to empower women buts also for the overall wellbeing of households and communitie­s in Sarawak.

The statement further elaborated SWAG’s approach is encouragin­g and enhancing the coordinati­on of community and institutio­nal support for enterprisi­ng women to accelerate and sustain entreprene­urial start- ups and scale-ups in Sarawak.

About 108 women from various NGOs such as Dewanita DUBS Sarawak, DUBS Wanita Kuching Associatio­n, Kaum Wanita Batu Kawa Associatio­n, Lun Bawang Sarawak Associatio­n, Persiap Sarawak, Kuching- Samarahan Chinese Women Associatio­n, Perkim Sarawak, Entreprene­urs of Kek Lapis Sarawak Associatio­n, and participan­ts of WIDE WWTC attended the roundtable.

The workshop covered the issues faced by women enterprise­s and the impact on their business. Participan­ts were also encouraged to come up with proposed strategies and solutions for the issues.

The roundtable for Central Zone ( Sibu) and Northern Zone ( Miri) will be held on Jan 30 and Feb 6 respective­ly.
