UCustoms to be introduced in ports nationwide this year

JOHOR BAHRU: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department’s new system, uCustoms will be introduced in all the ports in the country in stages this year.

Its director-general Datuk Seri T Subromania­m said the system which replaced the existing Customs Informatio­n System had so far been implemente­d in the Westport, Port Klang.

He said uCustoms would be expanded to Southport, Port Klang

We expect all ports to adopt this new system starting early 2019 in efforts to improve the quality of Customs services.

on March 1, to be followed by ports in Johor, Penang, Kuantan (Pahang), Sabah and Sarawak by year’s end.

The system that functions under one single platform for goods clearance will also be used at the Kuala Lumpur Internatio­nal Airport ( KLIA) and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.

“We expect all ports to adopt this new system starting early 2019 in efforts to improve the quality of Customs services,” he told reporters after opening the Johor Port Import Export Complex here yesterday.

Also present was MMC Port Holdings Sdn Bhd group chief executive officer, Ian James.

On the Import Export Complex, Subromania­m said the threestore­y building, costing almost RM12 million, would house all the relevant government agencies under one roof, including Customs, police and Johor Bahru District Health Office. — Bernama
