‘Cyber games or E-sports stimulate the mind’

-

SIBU: Cyber games which is gaining a footing among the younger generation is a fast growing industry, according to Assistant Minister of E- Commerce Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais.

He said it should be considered good as it can help stimulate the minds of young people to be more innovative.

He noted that the young people could get engrossed in the games for hours.

“On the positive side, it helps stimulate the mind and enables one to be focused, analytical and make fast decisions.

“In any cyber or computer based game, you are either fighting human opponents or fighting a computer.

“Whoever you are fighting against, you must remember that you are being assisted by artificial intelligence, the computer and its software.

“In other words, the computer, irrespective of whether that decision is correct or wrong depends on how good and how fast you react,” said Mohd Naroden, who is also Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) recently.

“But the end result is it stimulates your mind in decision making, to become more innovative and if used positively, can help in your daily business. You can use computer and internet to source for, exchange and sell information like in ecommerce including online businesses.

“This is why YAB Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had noted cyber games as an upcoming fast growing industry in our country when he launched the Malaysia Cyber Games 2018 ( MCG18) at Putra World Trade Centre, KL recently.”

Najib reportedly said the government planned to turn cyber games or E- Sports into a new industry that could generate revenue for the country in the future at the Asian and international level.

Mohd Naroden said similarly in Sarawak, this is exactly what Sarawak government under Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is doing by adopting digital economy as a platform for Sarawak to leapfrog its economy.

Mohd Naroden concurred that cyber games have some negative effects on young people.

“And when we think of it, everything we do also have some negative effects.

“Even experts with good skills can abuse their skills for bad things — what more to say digital games and internet technologies.

“But technologies are created from innovations — these creations are meant to help human beings progress, be competitive and succeed,” Mohd Naroden said.
