PBB members seek new state seat for Miri
MIRI: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) members here have called for a new state seat to be created under Miri parliamentary constituency to represent the Bumiputera community.
At present the state constituencies under the Miri parliamentary seat are Senadin, Piasau, and Pujut.
PBB Pujut Adong sub- branch information chief Mohamad Bakar said the party has not represented any of the state seats in Miri although there are many PBB members in all three constituencies.
“If possible, we want the top leadership to see and value the various aspects and needs for PBB to have a new seat under Miri parliamentary constituency,” he said.
“It doesn’t mean that we, PBB, would be taking a seat from SUPP (Sarawak United People’s Party), a BN (Barisan Nasional) component party here in Miri. All this while, we have only been ‘ passengers’ and not one of the ‘drivers’.”
He pointed out that PBB already has branches in Senadin, Pujut, and Piasau as well as many subbranches.
If possible, we want the top leadership to see and value the various aspects and needs for PBB to have a new seat under the Miri parliamentary constituency.
“If possible create a new Permyjaya seat for PBB as many of its members are in that area,” he suggested.
PBB member Hasnan Ahmad agreed it is high time for PBB to be given the opportunity to represent the Bumiputera community here.
“It doesn’t mean that we seize a SUPP seat, as the party has three state seats and one parliamentary seat in Miri,” he said.
“If PBB is given a seat, the representative will be more alert and be a representative in Miri for the Bumiputera community. We hope the top leadership at state and federal level can understand the interests of the party, so that a new seat under Permyjaya can be created.”
The state assemblymen for Miri are Datuk Lee Kim Shin ( SUPPSenadin), Datuk Sebastian Ting (SUPP-Piasau), and Dr Ting Tiong Choon ( Democratic Action PartyPujut), while the Miri member of parliament is Dr Michael Teo from Parti Keadilan Rakyat.
