He said the campaign aims to create awareness of baby safety in order to minimise child fatalities in road accidents.

“The campaign begins on Feb 1 (today) and this initiative will see a child safety seat being given free to every baby delivered at SSMC, with the fi rst use of the seat being for their safe journey home.

“This will also be an opportunity for SSMC to give back to the community,” he said during the pre-launching at the centre.

Explaining on the criteria of those eligible for the car seats, Denis said they must deliver at SSMC under resident consultants Dr Toh Siu Gap and Dr Li Hie Ing.

Meanwhile, Inspector Siti Nur Khatimah Hassan from the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division said that six children aged below 10 perished in road accidents between 2014 and 2017.

She said it was not impossible to achieve zero fatalities of children in road accidents if parents had awareness on the matter.
