The project is sited on a 1.3acre land in front of the express boat terminal at Khoo Peng Loong Road, and is undertaken by Best Magnitude Sdn Bhd in partnership with Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

The man behind the project is Dato Steve Ng, who is also responsible for the construction of Plaza Merdeka and The Waterfront Hotel in Kuching.

According to Ng, the earthbreaking ceremony for the ninestorey Hub will be held in March, with works starting in July.

“The project has been approved by the state government and it should be completed by 2020,” he told a press conference here yesterday morning attended by SMC chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King, his deputy Rogayah Jamain and others.

Tiong said the Hub would be made up of a multi-level shopping mall, a nine-screen cinema, as well as a multi-storey carpark that can accomodate up to 750 vehicles.

A sky bridge is incorporated to link the Hub to the UTC building, he added.

“The Hub will not only add a new dimension to the centre of Sibu town, but also greatly improve the traffic flow in the area.

“It is conceptualised to integrate the various transport components like express boats, buses taxis and others,” said Tiong.

The Hub will have over 300 shop
