Hope Place not accepting new cases from today

-

KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching will not be accepting any new cases starting today.

They will resume reviewing new families or individuals in need after May 31.

Hope Place Kuching founder Kelvin Wan said this is because their stock is limited and the declining number of donors due the slow economy.

“Our regular monthly donors are now less than 10,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He hoped the public would understand their situation and apologised for any inconvenience caused.

“Hope Place will commence taking new cases from June 1 onwards,” he said.

He added that any urgent or emergency cases during this period would be dealt with on a case-to- case basis.

Hope Place Kuching has reached new heights this year as it is fielding more calls than ever.

Last year, they received 139 calls from the public requesting for help.

“Thanks to the support of the media, public and the government, Hope Place is able to reach out to more under-privileged people in and around Kuching,” said Wan.

They are supporting well over their target of 200 needy families and each month they send out more than RM27,000 worth of food items, including specialty milk for their special needs recipients, and diapers.

Wan said they faced high demand for specialty milk such as Nutren Fibre, which cost over RM100 per can.

He cited the case of an unconscious patient named Sung Teck Joon, 42, who requires one can of the milk every two to three days and needs a pack of XL diapers every three days.

“Hope Place takes care of more than 60 special needs cases, so we are always short of milk and diapers.”
