Ministry holds strategic planning and team-building retreat

KUCHING: Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak held a strategic planning and team-building retreat at Sematan Palm Beach Resort from Jan 24-28.

The activity aimed to foster relationsh­ips and cohesivene­ss among the ministry’s staff, learn and internalis­e its shared values, and realign its strategic map after the merging of ministries after last year’s cabinet reshuffle: Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture with Ministry of Youth, Sports and Solidarity.

During the closing ceremony yesterday, its minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah urged all to work as a team to implement strategies and action plans identified through the strategic planning session in line with the ministry’s vision ‘Leading the Advancemen­t of Sarawak’s Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports’ and mission ‘Positionin­g Sarawak as a premier tourism destinatio­n, showcase of unique arts and culture and a centre of excellence for youth and sports.’

The retreat was attended by about 130 participan­ts from Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports including agencies like Sarawak Tourism Board, Sarawak Convention Bureau, Sarawak Sports Corporatio­n, State Sports Council, Sarawak Museum Department, Sarawak Arts Council and Sarawak Craft Council.

The closing ceremony saw the integrity pledge made by all participan­ts led by permanent secretary Hii Chang Kee and witnessed by Abdul Karim.

The closing ceremony was attended by Sarawak Sports Corporatio­n CEO Dr Ong Kong Swee, Sarawak Convention Bureau COO Amelia Roziman, Sarawak Tourism Board acting CEO Mary Wan Mering, and Sarawak Museum Department director Ipoi Datan.
