SARIKEI: The Jakar Town 1Malaysia Internet Centre ( PI1M) will carry out more roadshows to create awareness on the importance of information technology ( IT) among the rural people.

Its chairman, Tuai Rumah Setia Ungok, said they planned to go to all longhouses in Jakar area to promote the services available at PI1M Jakar, and to encourage them to utilise it to the fullest.

That is to ensure that the rural community are not left behind due to IT illiteracy, he said.

He advised the local residents to visit PI1M to learn basic IT knowledge or to utilise the services and facilities available there such as internet, computer and other electronic devices.

He believed the knowledge and experience gained from the centre would help them to explore and exploit opportunities available online, Setia added.

Also during the roadshow, they would encourage the longhouse folk to register as members of PI1M.

Tuai Rumah Andong Nanang, on behalf of his ‘anembiak’ (charges) thanked the PI1M committee for organising the programme.

He hoped that the local people, upon being being IT-literate, would be able to improve their income as well.

PI1M secretary TR Rambai Bandang, PI1M Jakar manager Shila Usan and her assistant Liwati Limbang were among those present at the roadshow in Rumah Andong.
