KUCHING: More job seeking Malaysians are prioritising their work experience over personal strengths to make themselves more relevant to employers.

Online social work platform LinkedIn believes that this could suggest job seekers are recognising the value of experience and skills over paper qualifications.

In its annual list of Buzzwords in Malaysia, LinkedIn revealed that in 2017, the most popular words found on Malaysians’ LinkedIn profiles is the word ‘ Experienced’, followed by ‘ Skilled’.

In a press statement , LinkedIn’s he a d of Communications for Southeast Asia and North Asia Linda Lee, said, “To get the right job or opportunity, the good news is all of us can make the difference. Employers typical ly value experience and skills over paper qualifications.

“Calling out you r achievements at work will boost your chances of being not iced, especial ly in a massively competitive job market.

“The goal is to let the potential employer recognise what makes you different from the competition and open the door for that first interview.

“Beyond using words to describe ourselves, we are also encouraging our members to stay engaged with their networks and establ ish a voice in their community. It’s important to stand out from the crowd by bringing out our authentic selves.”

To help members improve prof i les and stand out to recruiters LinkedIn advised its members to take pride in their online presence, show character, be creative in the way they present themselves and their strengths, be active in networking, and voice their thoughts on industry matters.
