BINTULU: Over 1,000 jobs in the retail industry will be created following the opening of tHe Spring Bintulu in mid-November this year.

PE Group of Companies managing director James Ling said this development would contribute positively to the Bintulu economy; offering many opportunities for local businesses.

He said this during the unveiling ceremony of key tenants for tHe Spring Bintulu at ParkCity Everly Hotel here yesterday.

“It is our belief that experience, foresight and the right partnership will give us the edge to confidently invest and grow the market and improve the standard of living of people in this untapped market.

“For the people of Bintulu, you are rest assured that we will give you a market place that can meet your expectations,” Ling said.

He also called for cooperation from the local authorities in order to ease new businesses and share best practices to ensure they can meet all the time lines and regulations.

For the existing local F& B or retail businesses here, Ling invited them to be part of this retail arena.

“We are excited and look forward to the opening of tHe Spring Bintulu. As of today we have leased out about 70 per cent of the properties. We are confident of getting the 90 per cent target by end of this year.”

Ling said with a total investment of RM245 million, tHe Spring Bintulu is built on 9.9 acres of prime city centre land with a view of the sea. It has a leasable area of 390,000 sq ft.

At a press conference later, Ling said Bintulu was chosen because of its strategic location at the centre of the state, which has abundant natural resources and energy-related products such as hydro-power and oil and gas.

Meanwhile, tHe Spring Management Services director Andy Song believed tHe Spring Bintulu would be a catalyst for more positive growth in this booming town.

“You look at retail development in any city, this is a catalyst, jobs are created, and of course bringing in knowledge from key tenants down to the local market.

“It will definitely help to improve the lifestyle of the people, and also improving the retail offering here.

“It is also a catalyst to modernise the town to really serve its ‘melting pot’ community,” he added.
