KGBS supports call to discuss ways to deal with problematic students
SIBU: The call upon all relevant parties to discuss the types of punishment for students with disciplinary problems augurs well with Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union ( KGBS).
According to KGBS president Ahmad Malie, the suggestion by Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation ( MCPF) senior vice- chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye should prevent the misunderstanding between the teachers, the parents and the community whenever a disciplinary action against a problematic student is taken.
This would also avoid the blame game from happening.
“KGBS fully support his (Lee’s) call for all quarters – teachers, parents and community – to be involved in discussions slated for identifying the guidelines on appropriate actions to tackle disciplinary issues among students, to prevent injuries or any suffering from prolonged trauma.
“In doing so, parents and the community would not easily blame teachers as they understand the procedures,” said Ahmad – also Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Service ( Cuepacs) Sarawak president – in a statement yesterday.
In his remarks recently, Lee suggested that the parents be involved in the disciplinary process, and also be informed of the offences committed by their children, following the Education Ministry’s decision to set up several committees to study the 23 points suggested by the National Union of Teaching Profession ( NUTP) for a proposed code of ethics for parents and guardians.
