Dennis rallies Kayan support for Anyi

-

MIRI: The Kayan community in Baram must give their full support to BN/PDP candidate Anyi Ngau in the upcoming general election for the Baram Team to continue bringing development to the Orang Ulu hinterland.

In stating this, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said the Baram Team comprising Anyi as Baram MP, Marudi assemblyman Datu Dr Pengguang Manggil, Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala and himself had successfully brought much development to Baram.

“We must make sure that the BN candidate for Baram, Anyi, retains the seat to continue the agenda of the Baram Team to further develop the area,” Dennis was speaking during the closing of ‘ Taklimat Adet Kayan/Kenyah 1994’ for the Kayan community in Miri Division held at a hotel here recently.

Present were Telang Usan district officer Baru Tai, organising chairlady Temenggong Elizaberth Deng, political secretary to the chief minister Charles Balang Seling and Pemanca Gilbert Ding.

Dennis, who is PBB Telang Usan chairman, assured that PBB members in Baram would give their solid support to Anyi to retain the sea.

On the opposition, he said they had no concrete plan for Baram except to smear the government.

“It is important that the people must support BN for their own benefit as Baram is a rural constituency that still needs government assistance and development projects,” he pointed out.

On the federal government, he said it had brought much development and goodies to Baram, such as roads and bridges linking the Baram region to Miri and surrounding divisions.

Among the projects given by the federal government, he mentioned, are the Long Lama bridge and solar energy for the rural areas.

Earlier, Dennis said the briefing served as a good platform for community leaders to get updates on development and planning by the government.

On another note, he commented that he was sad to note that the Kayans nowadays, especially those living in towns and cities, were less respectful of their community leaders compared to before.

“Most of them do not care about the problems and issues in their villages but blame the leaders.

“Our people are already detached from the institution of leadership in the villages,” he lamented.

Elizaberth, who also spoke at the function, advised community leaders to have their own Key Performance Index ( KPI) in serving their people.

She stressed that it is not the culture of the community to condemn their community leaders, elected representatives and the government, especially on social media which is now becoming a trend.

“If the community is seen everyday fighting with each other, what will other people say of us?” she said, adding they should thrash out misunderstandings through consultation and in the spirit of tolerance.

Over 40 Kayan community leaders attended the briefing.
