Call to cooperate against graft in environmental issues

-

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC) has urged all enforcement agencies and non- governmental organisations ( NGOs) to continue working together with the commission in channelling information and complaints to tackle bribery and abuse of power involving environmental issues.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkif li Ahmad said the efforts to curb bribery involving such issues would not work without the collaboration and support of all parties including the Enforcement Division of the Department of Environment ( DoE), NGOs and the MACC.

“The MACC has taken proactive measures by establishing the Environmental Protection Against Corruption Caucus ( EPACC) last year to forge a strategic partnership with all parties for information sharing (in order) to strengthen law enforcement against corruption involving environmental issues.

“In 2017, the MACC’s Inspection and Consultation Division conducted checks over forest plantation management system and procedures in Peninsular Malaysia to identify weaknesses that could be improved,” he said when opening the ‘ Forest Plantation Management: Issues, Challenges & Solutions’ workshop here yesterday.

Also present was Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia (FDPM) deputy directorgeneral Datuk Roslan Ariffin.

The two- day workshop until today, being held at the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Academy ( MACA), is participated by almost 100 people from the FDPM, State Forestry Departments, DoE, Sahabat Alam Malaysia ( SAM), Persatuan Aktivis Sahabat Alam ( KUASA) and Persatuan Pelindung Khazanah. — Bernama
