‘Drainage works in Stampin Resettlement Scheme to start soon’
KUCHING: Phase 1 of the construction and improvement to the drainage system at Stampin Resettlement Scheme, costing RM5 million, will start very soon.
A councillor of Kuching South City Council ( MBKS) Goh Tze Hui said the project would take 10 months to complete.
He said the council had studied all issues and details of the project and had come up with a master development plan on drainage improvement at the area. The first phase of the project covers lanes 7, 9, 11, 37, 37A and 37B.
“The council will immediately implement the project after securing the funding. Those unfounded accusations are indeed puzzling. People who do not understand the procedures of securing the funds should not speak publicly without any facts.
“The people’s representatives should also not use their own views to analyse the cost of the entire project, with a view to confuse the people,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Goh said the council had tried very hard to bid for the funds to improve public facilities in the area.
“Please bear in mind that assessment rates collected from the residents are barely enough to cover the basic services accorded to the area. When the residents were told of the project, they all looked forward to its completion.”
He added the project had been handed over to the contractor who would start the project very soon, subject to terms and conditions.
According to him, the total length of the drain at the resettlement scheme is 29 kilometres, and to complete it in the future would require at least RM40 million.
Councillors Iskandar Sharkawi, Philip Liaw and Patrick Song were also present at the press conference.
