End to mother, daughter drug traffickin­g

LIMBANG: A mother and daughter who were actively traffickin­g drugs were eventually arrested by police in a residentia­l area near Taman Damai here on Monday night.

The unemployed mother, 42, and her daughter, 22, from Kampung Limpaong were arrested at 10.30pm by a police team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigat­ion Division ( BSJN) Limbang.

Limbang District Police Chief, Superinten­dent Mohd Bukhori Saffai said they were arrested under Section 3 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act ( Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.

“The two suspects will be detained for 60 days pending the decision of the Home Ministry whether to send them for two years’ stay in a Moral Rehabilita­tion Centre in Peninsular Malaysia, subsequent­ly banished from the district,” he told the media yesterday.

He said within two weeks, police here in their fight against drug menace also managed to arrest three drug trafficker­s in Limbang. Apart from the two suspects, police arrested two others – also a mother and daughter during a raid at a house in Kampung Meritam near here on Monday.

“Following the arrest of the 53-year- old woman and her 23year- old daughter, we managed to confiscate 16 grammes of syabu worth RM3,200. In the initial screening, two suspects tested negative for drugs,” he said.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 39A [ 1] of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Meanwhile, he said in a separate operation, six men aged 20 to 29 were detained in a house in Kampung Meritam on Monday afternoon.

“The arrest of the six suspects led to the discovery of 37.73 grammes of syabu worth RM 7,400. Four of the six suspects tested positive for Methamphet­amine and Amphetamin­e,” he said, adding that the case will be investigat­ed under Section 39A [ 2], and Section15 [1] [a] DDA 1952.
