Kuching the venue for 10th BAQ conference this year
KUCHING: The 10th Better Air Quality ( BAQ) conference will be held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching ( BCCK) on Nov 14-16.
The conference is jointly organised by Clean Air Asia, Clean Air Forum Society of Malaysia ( MyCAS), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and Natural Resources and Environment Board of Sarawak.
“It is timely for Kuching to be the venue for this conference as it shall help to further strengthen Sarawak and Malaysia’s commitment for a cleaner environment,” said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan during a meeting with BAQ 2018 organising committee yesterday.
“BAQ 2018 is Asia’s leading event on air quality and shall focus on transformative action and technological innovation in Asia for clean air and liveable cities, the pivotal role of Asia in these efforts as well as contributing to meeting international goals of Sustainable Development Goals, Paris Climate Agreement and New Urban Agenda,” said its chairperson Dr Noor Zaitun Yahaya.
BAQ 2018 is expected to attract 600-700 participants, half of whom are foreigners from all over the world.
With the theme ‘Regional Action, Global Impact’, the conference will see plenary sessions, forums and breakout sessions and dialogues on a wide range of topics including Air Quality and Climate Change, Clean Energy and Better Air Quality and City Solutions for Clean Air.
There will also be technical tours and site visits, as well as a gala dinner and Kong Ha Award ceremony — a special award given out as tribute to persons who have a responsibility for the formulation of air quality management related policies and their day-to- day implementation in Asia.
For the first time in BAQ history, the award this year shall also be eligible to cities that have demonstrated exemplary work in addressing specific air pollution issues and continue to strive in improving air quality in their cities.
In addition, participants interested in making oral or poster presentation are now invited to submit an abstract. They should present new scientific research, innovative and smart solutions that work in or can be adapted to air quality context, particularly those that cover topics such as Clean Energy for Better Air Quality, Air Quality Management and Climate Change, Sustainable Transport Solutions for Cities, Indoor Air Pollution, Education and Awareness on Air Quality and more. Deadline for submission is May 15 .
