Bandong Walk Fun Run 2018 receives overwhelming response

-

SIBU: The Bandong Walk Fun Run 2018 on April 15 has registered 500 entries in just three days, prompting the organiser to stop accepting more participants.

Organising chairman Abang Hisham Abang Hashim told a press conference here yesterday that 500 is the maximum they could take in.

The event is organised by Sibu BandongCommunityDevelopment Association ( PPKB Sibu) in collaboration with Underground Runners Sibu ( UGRS Sibu) and Bandong Neighbourhood Watch Committee ( KRT).

“The total number of participants surpassed that of run organised by UGRS previously at 300 (runners). This is the first time PPKB Sibu is organising it and we did not anticipate such good response.

“We’d reached out to the potential runners via social media (Facebook),” he said.

He disclosed that the majority of the runners are from the central region of the state.

Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee, who is also Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health, will flag off the run at 7am at Kampung Bandong here.

The 2.5km route will take the runners through Kampung Datu Baru, Kaka Road, Kampung Abang Barieng before ending at Kampung Bandong.

Hisham said the objective is to promote Bandong Walk as a tourist attraction especially among the food lovers besides highlighting the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The highlight of the event will be an aerobic exercise.

“There will be a lucky draw for the runners, the grand prize of which is a 32 inches LCD television,” Abang Hisham enthused.

PPKB Sibu chairman Abang Morni Dato Sri Abang Zainuddin was also present at the press conference.
