Sava produces first book on history of agricultural development
KUCHING: A book on the history of agricultural development in Sarawak entitled “100 years of Agricultural development in Sarawak”, produced by Sarawak Agriculture Veteran Association ( Sava) was launched at Tulai Association Building, Bintangor on March 31.
The Assistant Minister for Corporate Affairs Abdullah Saidol who was representing the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, launched the book which took the authors, Johnny PU Chien and Edward Lakin Mansel, three years to complete.
Sava and the authors are grateful to the Chief Minister for his kindness in writing the forward; Tan Sri Datuk Alfred Jabu Numpang and Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Douglas Uggah for the messages; former colleagues, retired and serving officers for contributing the materials and the former director of Agriculture, Datu Lai Kui Foong for his permission and assistance in providing records and photographs from the Department for the book.
The book launch coincided with the official opening of Tulai Association Building and the launch of another book on the history of the Tulai Agricultural Community, also authored by Johnny PU Chien.
Abang Johari said in the forward of the book that this first attempt to gather information and data on the historical progress of agricultural development in Sarawak was definitely an achievement in itself.
He congratulated Sava and the authors in taking up the challenge to produce the book which covers a wide range of interest, as it chronicled 100 years of progress from the time of the White Rajah of Sarawak to the present day Sarawak.

On another subject, the Robert mentioned that the association which was registered with the Registrar of Society in June 2011, has just over 100 registered members.
The aim of the association amongst others is to help enrich retirement lifestyles and is actively organising social activities for members to come together. Among the activities are visits to places of interest especially those involving in agro enterprises.
