Easter Carnival with a good cause

-

MIRI: Two local engineers were among the 37 who successfully donated blood during the Easter Carnival held over the weekend at the State Library here.

Both men were first-time donors with the desire to save lives and help others in need.

“Besides being a Mirian and Catholic myself, I need to support our church to the best of my abilities,” said Jordan Peter Ambrose, a mechanical engineer with a local firm.

Ricky Chua, a marine engineer with a firm in Trengganu said he was glad that he could donate blood during his four days off here and hopes to continue donating blood as long as he is able to.

Meanwhile, Miri Hospital Blood Bank senior assistant information officer, Kenneth Numan thanked the organisers – St Joseph Cathedral Miri Parish and Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri – for including the blood donation campaign as part of the two- day inaugural carnival.

“We are also thankful to the donors for supporting the campaign whereby 37 out of 50 who registered successfully donated a pint of blood each. The blood bank currently has sufficient stock. On average, 600 to 700 points of blood are needed every month. At the same time, we also supply blood to private hospitals in Miri and also government hospitals in Limbang, Lawas, Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and even Kota Kinabalu. Thus we welcome donors all the time,” Kenneth added.

Those who wish to donate at the Blood Bank may come during office hours from 8.30am to 12 noon and 2.15pm to 4pm on Mondays to Thursdays, and from 8.30am to 11am and 2.30pm to 4pm on Fridays.
