Powerboat races a huge crowd puller at annual Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari

KAPIT: Orion85, GB31, Ganas Pasir Ngabu, GB TAN18 and Pesaka 35 shone in the final races of the just concluded powerboat competitio­n which was held in conjunctio­n with the two- day Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari 2018 held at Kapit waterfront over the weekend.

The two- day competitio­n, organised by Kapit Division Powerboat Associatio­n ( KaDPA), attracted a huge crowd of spectators including foreign tourists and upriver communitie­s, who converged on the waterfront to watch the races first-hand.

Orion 85 won the 50hp Tunnel Boat category with Ferarri 78 from Brunei in second place and Green Hornet 36 in third.

Meanwhile, Ganas Pasir Ngabu Baleh 69 racing team won the 30hp Tunnel Boat category with Orion 85 in second place and Athena 31 third.

The 35hp Tunnel Boat (two piston) category was won by GB TAN18, with HR Speed 16 in second place and Song Team 09 in third.

GB31 won the 18hp Tunnel Boat category with TBRT ZEUS Group 85 in second and Pesaka 11, third.

Meanwhile, the Pump Engine 8hp category was won by Pesaka35, with Majeniezs 195 finishing in second and Pesaka Baleh 49, third.

This year, the organising committee added two new categories – the 30hp Tunnel Boat to vie for the Edmund Erong Memorial Cup, and Mini Marathon 18hp and below Tunnel Boat.

The Edmund Erong Memorial Cup was won by Murpink, with Athena 31 in second and Orion 85 in third place.

The 18hp and below Tunnel Boat mini marathon, which started at Kapit Wharf to Nanga Baleh and back, was won by GB31, with Song Team 09 coming in second and Pesaka 29 in third.

All the winners in the various categories received cash prizes and trophies from the organisers.
