KANOWIT: The local police force received a commendation certificate for keeping crime at bay by Kanowit incumbent MP Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang at a function held here yesterday.

Kanowit police chief DSP Daniel Benjamin said the certificate recognises the force’s excellent performance in discharging their duties in this district.

In the certificate, Aaron praised the policemen for regularly coordinating with all concerned agencies in Kanowit and in all government and public programmes to ensure the safety of everyone.

“He also commended the leadership and professional skills exhibited by the police,” Daniel said.

Daniel said that they were always alert to the security situation in the district and they had managed to reduce crime index through close cooperation with the local community.

“The people- friendly concept practised by us has helped to lower the crime index from 15 cases reported from January and April last year to two cases within the same period this year.

“We are also involved in various programmes organised here to strengthen our unity with the community and to get first-hand information on activities on the ground,” he said.

He added that the close cooperation between the police and local community has improved the image of the police as a partner to address security and crime issues.
