Rosmah visits Permata children’s hospital construction project

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor yesterday took time off to see for herself the progress of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Permata Children’s Hospital ( HKKP UKM) project in Cheras.

Rosmah, who is the patron of the Permata Negara programme, spent about 30 minutes to take a closer look and listen to a briefi ng on the project development, which is expected to be fully operational in July next year.

As the patron of the hospital, she was also given the honour to choose the external and internal designs of the HKKP UKM based on her favourite colours and designs.

HKKPUKM projectmanagement committee chairman Datuk Dr A Rahman A Jamal, when met by reporters, said the hospital was currently 70 per cent completed.

“The child-friendly and family centred hospital is expected to reduce congestion in the pediatric wards of other hospitals and provide patients with fast and comfortable facilities,” he said after accompanying Rosmah to visit the hospital’s construction site here yesterday.

Dr A Rahman said based on the record, about 20,000 children received treatment as outpatients and 7,000 warded at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre ( PPUKM) and Kuala Lumpur General Hospital every year. He said the 250-bed HKKP UKM would apply the Smart Hospital concept, namely as a paperless hospital with self registration kiosk and registration via smart phone.

The hospital will also become a centre for the referral and research of children’s diseases.

Construction of the modern and high tech hospital at a cost of RM606 million was approved by the Cabinet in 2010 under the private financing initiative ( PFI).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak officiated the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the hospital in 2013. — Bernama
