PMNS reaps early fruits of junior devt programme

KUCHING: Sarawak Muaythai Associatio­n ( PMNS) is beginning to see the positive outcome of its junior developmen­t programme.

This is based on Sarawak’s haul of eight gold, four silver and three bronze medals at the recent National Inter- School and InterClub Muaythai Championsh­ips in Kuala Lumpur, according to PMNS president Jumaat Ibrahim.

He was grateful to the Malaysian Muaythai As soci at ion for organising the tournament which he said provided valuable exposure to his young fighters.

Jumaat attributed his team’s performanc­e to PMNS instructor­s who were led by Sarawak State Sports Council ( MSNS) muaythai coordinato­r Alexander Sirai Isau and the comprehens­ive programmes coordinate­d by state muaythai coach Ahmad Ismail Meddan.

“Our thanks are also conveyed to a l l the muaythai c lubs and associatio­ns, as wel l as participat­ing schools from all across Sarawak for their all- out involvemen­t and cooperatio­n in developing this sport, he told The Borneo Post.

Gold medalists at the tournament were Elias Ghazali of SMK St Thomas Kuching ( Boys 57kg - Age 14-15) category, Maurien Hii of SMK Chung Hua Miri ( Girls 57kg - Age 14-15), Ellyana Awie of SMK Engkilili (Girls 48kg - Age 16-17), Elia Zonia of SMK Engkilili ( Girls Open 57kg), Muhd Johan Ghazali of SK St Thomas ( Boys 38kg - Age 10-11), Aurora Chai of Kelab Muaythai D30 Miri (Girls Open 51kg), Kabilan Jelevan of SS Fighters Petra Jaya Kuching (Men Open 63.5kg) and Mohd Eswandy of Muaythai Kenyalang ( Men Open 71kg).

Winning silver medals were Syarif Nukman of SK St Thomas Kuching ( Boys 30kg - Age 10-11), Rahman Abdullah of SMK Lundu ( Boys 42kg - Age 14-15), Ranti Niza of Lundu Muaythai Club (Women Open 45kg) and Awangku Abdul Rahman of Kelab PS Muaythai Bintulu ( Men Open 51kg).

Ayu Addyqa Azmi of SMK Matang Kuching ( Boys 45kg - Age 14-15), Ayu Arash Azmi of SMK Semerah Padi Kuching ( Boys 45kg - Age 16-17) and Dayang Nur Fazedah of Lundu Muaythai Club (Girls Open 48kg) were the bronze medalists.
